Thematic Observations I Personally Documented in Writing After Watching The Revenant (January 2016)
- Selfishness vs. altruism
- Honor and integrity vs. sinfulness and deceit
- God as Creator, who gives and takes away, who rewards and punishes, as it is not our duty to enact vengeance
- The beauty and expanse of God's marvelous creation
- Fortitude, man's extraordinary capability and will to survive, even when facing extremely challenging difficulties
- Falling victim to the role of a savage barbarian or maintaining a conscience and a sense of decency
- Resilience, overcoming even the greatest of odds
- Strength and perseverance, continuing not to surrender even when all hope appears lost
- The guilt that accompanies deliberate abandonment and betrayal
- The inverse relationship between the fear of death and its proximity
- Skepticism in regard to the validity of the "no man left behind" notion
- The proper enforcement of justice
- The sublime nature of the wilderness
- The futility of retribution
- The raw brutality of man's existence
- Both the righteous and the wicked ultimately earn their dues
- Cruelty vs. mercy
