Message I Shared on Social Media About a Stray Dog I Found in 2023 (Facebook Groups, Nextdoor, Lost Pet Websites, Local Shelters, etc.)

*FOUND SWEET DOG*

I found this dog (I’ve been calling him “Buddy”) on Thursday roaming around our Pine Lake neighborhood in Stone Mountain, GA. He was chasing after us while I was walking my dog. I spoke to several neighbors and they all reported seeing the dog or having some sort of interaction with him. The dog is male and has not been neutered. However, he is very friendly and sweet. He is also skittish (I’m not sure if he’s been abused in the past) though and seems to be missing his owner(s). He appears to be young, well-groomed (his nails look they may have been clipped recently and his coat looks beautiful), and in good health. So far I have been unable to locate the owner(s). I’m not sure if he is lost or has been abandoned. And while I’ve been feeding him and caring for him for a few days, I am looking for his owner (or some responsible, aspiring pet owner) to take him because I already have two dogs of my own. When I first found him he had nothing but a collar (without any tags). So I have no way to identify him. I don’t have an address, phone number, or even a name for him. I took him to multiple veterinary centers and rescue centers and we were unable to locate a microchip using the scanners. He is still staying with us and I’m actively looking for an individual/family/shelter to foster him. Many of them claim to be filled to capacity or legally unable to accept stray dogs. I’m also not sure which vaccinations he has had. But I don’t want to surrender him to DeKalb County Animal Services because they will likely just euthanize him. And I don’t want to just release him again because he could starve, get hit by a speeding car, etc. He just wants some love and I promise you he will return your love tenfold. He has been nothing but gentlemanly to me and everyone he has encountered since I found him.
