Keeping My Composure
An insensitive remark you made disappointed me, but I understand why you believe I overreacted by predominantly responding with silence. And maybe you're right; perhaps I did overreact to your comment. But I tend to take a more careful approach when handling sensitive circumstances. So, in a case like that, I'd rather remain quiet than provide an elaborate explanation by way of text messages and risk becoming involved in a vicious argument. Nonetheless, I apologize if doing so hurt you. That was, of course, never my intention.
As I've already mentioned, I prefer to err on the side of caution and hold my tongue when presented with tense situations. After hearing how others feel and disagreeing with them, many people either panic and leave or furiously escalate disputes. Thus, I aimed to give my opinion on the matter while keeping the discussion as cordial and considerate as humanly possible. I always exercise healthy alternatives to conflict first and only take part in direct, heated confrontation as a last resort.
Although you may think otherwise, I rarely change my tone or raise my voice during serious conversations. I like to stay composed and levelheaded. That includes doing everything in my power to refrain from engaging in altercations and to avoid indulging in outbursts. I do not like succumbing to my emotions; I like to be in control of them at all times. In the same vein, I've never really been the kind of person to publicly express my emotions. I almost always plainly state my thoughts and opinions without exhibiting any emotional instability.
