A Blessing and a Curse

Being a self-proclaimed expert on psychological compartmentalization enables me to voluntarily deactivate segments of my brain. This distinct ability aids in the prevention of a phenomenon referred to as cognitive dissonance. But there's more to it than that. I'd argue it's just as much a debilitating disability as it is a functional ability. Because, at the end of the day, it's a delicate defense mechanism too. It's a pro and a con, a strength and a weakness, an asset and a detriment, a blessing and a curse . . .
